The Orlando Salsa Congress is known as the biggest salsa event in
Central Florida. The congress is taking place since 2005 and usually
runs beginning of July. The Orlando Congress is put on by Salsa Heat
Dance Studios as well as the online salsa community Born to Salsa. The
day to day operations are run by co directors Frank Fuentes, Michael
Barbieri, and Joseluis Gutierrez.
The Orlando Salsa Conference features over twenty five confirmed salsa dance companies and individual performers who fill put on over fifty dance showcases. Other events will include many workshops, renowned instructors, salsa vendors, and social dancing that rolls on till four o’clock in the morning. Music for the congress will be provided by live bands as well as DJ’s.
The Orlando Salsa Congress is held at the Rosen Plaza Hotel on International Drive. The congress attracts people from all over the world not just for the dancing, but also for the hotel’s close proximity to the many attractions of Walt Disney World Resort, Sea World, Universal Studios, downtown Orlando, and the Orlando International Airport. The Rosen Plaza Hotel offers discounted rooms for congress attendees at the rate of ninety nine dollars per night. But beware as the rooms over this weekend have sold out during the first two years of the event. Passes for the congress can be purchased for the entire weekend, for each particular day’s festivities, for a day of workshops, or for each the celebrations taking place each night.
The Orlando Congress holds preliminary competitions for the World Salsa Championships in On 1, On 2, Cabaret, and team divisions. The winners of each division at this year’s congress are then eligible to compete in the annual World Salsa Championships. The championship is held at Walt Disney World and shown on various ESPN channels. It is the ultimate goal of many salsa competitors as it is the most prestigious salsa competition and is broadcasted on various ESPN channels.
